Meghalaya defeated Maharashtra 3-9 in the BC Roy Trophy in Bengaluru

Shillong, Sept 03: Meghalaya enjoyed a serene 3-0 victory over Maharashtra in their second Group C match of the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy in Bengaluru today.

Adriel B Nongbet (18′, 47′) and Habankhlur Lyngdoh Mawnai (52′) scored in the comprehensive victory. Coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh made no changes to the starting lineup from Meghalaya’s 2-1 win against Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The first goal popped out of nowhere as a clearance from the Meghalaya half bounced on the Maharashtra side with Adriel giving chase marked by Krishna Acharya of Maharashtra. The defender failed to stop the Meghalayan from getting around him and to the ball, which he hooked into the net with scarcely a look.

The second and third goals came early in the second half. First, a cross by Habankhlur from the left went very deep and the goalkeeper tried to punch it away but the ball went straight to Adriel and he had an easy header for his third goal of the tournament. Just five minutes later, Habankhlur would get his own name on the scoresheet.
