Shillong, Sept 06: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued the notification for the Junior Engineer Examination, 2026, inviting applications for various Group ‘B’ posts, including the post of Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Pay Level-6.
The online application process commenced on September 2, 2026, and will remain open until September 22, 2026, up to 11:00 PM. Eligible graduates, students and job-seekers are encouraged to make use of this opportunity and apply for the examination within the stipulated period.
The examination is being conducted for approximately 1,748 tentative vacancies. The vacancies include posts such as Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Electrical), Junior Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical), Junior Engineer (Telecom) and Scientific Assistant.
Reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities will be implemented in accordance with existing Government orders and the vacancies reported by the concerned Indenting Organisations and Offices.
There is no reservation for Ex-Servicemen in the examination, as the posts of Junior Engineers covered under the notification are classified as Group ‘B’ posts. However, eligible Ex-Servicemen candidates will be entitled to age relaxation as per applicable Government rules.
