Shillong, May 09: Three day NCC Group Commander’s Conference, North Eastern Region (NCC Dte NER) was held at Shillong from 07 to 09 May 2014 chaired by Major General U S Dadu, Additional Director General, NCC. The Conference was attended by Eight Group Commanders from the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland and Imphal.
The Conference deliberated on several pertinent issues concerning NER. While speaking at the conference the ADG informed that NCC will be upgrading 18 minor units to NCC Battalion with 3520 cadets each in the strategically important seven states. state advisory committee meeting (SACM) should be held every year for each state to be chaired by the State Government which acts as an apex committee to resolve all issues connected with NCC activities. He said that NCC is already an elective subject in some States of India in close coordination with CBSE and state autonomous Universities.
The same is required to be introduced in CBSE Schools and in the autonomous universities in the North Eastern States. He further added that it is very encouraging that enrolment of women in the North Eastern States is better than the states of India.
The Addl DG directed all the Group Commanders to encourage all cadets to undertake social activities by adoption of villages, tree plantation, disaster relief etc as responsible citizens to make it an integral part of their character building to contribute to the growth of India.
He thanked all the State Governments for their support and guidance in achieving the motto of NCC ‘Unity and Discipline’. In particular he appreciated the active participation of the cadets and exhorted them to pursue excellence individually and collectively for the betterment of the society and country.(SP News)
