Shillong, July 28: Mr T.D.Shira, Deputy Speaker and Dr Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary have expressed their deep sadness and condolence on the sudden demise of Dr Donkupar Roy, Hon’ble Speaker.
Mr T.D.Shira, Hon”ble Deputy Speaker recalled the experience and leadership qualities of the late Speaker when he had the opportunity to serve as Deputy Chief Minister in his Ministry and then now as his Deputy Speaker.
Dr Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary recalled with fondness the brief period that he served with the late Speaker. He feels that Dr Donkupar Roy is one of the legendary tall public figure that the State has produced.
The late Speaker was a quiet, soft spoken with low profile, but a very experienced and astute person, and also had an academic mind. He was also a very active Leader of Opposition. I will always cherish the short time that I served with him and cherish the warm memories.
