Shillong, March 13: The Governor of Meghalaya in his address in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the first day of the budget session while talking on the tourism sector said that Meghalaya has evolved as the most prefer destination of the North East, and recently was recognised as the ‘favourite emerging destination in India’ at the ‘Conde Nast Traveller Readers Awards 2019.
In order to ensure sufficient accommodation the government has signed an MoU with the Airbnb to promote home stay in the state. Various tourist spot are being renovated. Government is promoting Langkawet, Mawphanlur, Tyrso, Phlangmawsyrpat ect.
The Ministry of Tourism has sanction Rs. 29.58 cores from the PRASAD scheme for four projects in the state of Meghalaya. The government will be getting external aid project with the funding from the New development Bank has recently been approved. The total project cost is approximately Rs.700 cores and the investment will be made in the coming five years.
