Meghalaya Chief Secretary writes to Assam CS on lifting of essential commodities

Shillong, March 27: Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mr M S Rao has written to the Chief secretary of Assam Mr Sanjay Hasarika on the issue of lifting essential commodities from Guwahati.

This is the letter written by the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya to the Chief Secretary of Assam, “Dear Shri Synjay Hasarika, I thank you for your kind support in resolving the matters which were causing hindrance in the way of movement of essential commodities in transit from Assam to our state and it is deeply appreciated”.

“However, I would like to bring to your kind notice two issued that are creating problems in the hassle free and timely movement of  essential  commodities which are Meghalaya Bound”.

“The first issued is that in Guwahati the truck carrying essential commodities to the district of Assam are being given preference both for loading and movement. While that is understandable under the given circumstances it has the potential for creating long delays in the much needed dispatch of essential commodities to our state wherein we have very limited open market stock currently.”

“Our dependence on the Guwahati Market  in particular for essential supplies to both region of Garo Hills and Khasi and Jiantia Hills is also well known. In the Circumstances same directions to the authorities concerned for the rationalisation of the system is earnestly requested.”

“Another issue which I would like to raise is that of health screening of drivers and handymen of the truck from our state carrying essential commodities and stamping for quarantine for many. If it is done routinely for all there would be a serious problem whereby the truckers would have to immediately go for self quarantine upon completion of the trip. I would gentle advice caution and medical certainty on the issue so that only those exhibiting symptoms are stamped for quarantine”.

The Chief Secretary of Meghalaya hope that the two issued raise above shall receive your sympathetic consideration, the SP News Agency has published the letter at it is written by the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya to the Chief Secretary of Assam.
