Shillong, April 08: The Chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, Adviser and Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States Mr John Kharshiing today written a letter to the Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma that if the State Government thought Health Dept to recall the past list of hundreds of youths both boys and girls who did not qualify for nursing jobs so as to invite them for induction as Basic Volunteer Nurses as part of the states preparation to fight covid-19.
Mr Kharshiing congratulate the effective efforts and steps taken by both the State and the Central Government including the District Administration and the Traditional Institutions throughout Meghalaya for their active cooperation at the grassroots in combating Covid-19 and look forward to continued and strict surveillance process by all the stakeholders as we pass through a very critical stage of trying to break the chain of the deadly virus.
At the same time Mr Kharshiing has draw the attention to the fact that globally we can see that there is huge stress on the health care system due to the speed and scale at which this covid-19 spreads and where in some countries they are facing a crisis in terms of healthcare manpower.
From the Federation seen that the State and Centers focus on the increase of isolation and ICU beds we are yet to hear a detail road map about enhancing the healthcare manpower which would be required with every isolation and ICU bed.
While appreciating that it is not easy to overnight increase the medical manpower requirement we however suggest and request that the State Government consider advising the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and the Department of Health to recall and extract the past list of hundreds of youths both boys and girls applicants who did not qualify for nursing jobs so as tore-invite them for induction in collaboration with the Nursing Colleges and Institutions of the State so as to mobilise them to at least qualify as Basic Volunteer Nurses as part of the states preparation to fight covid-19.
