Shillong, April 23: To fight the challenges of COVID-19, Border Security Forces Meghalaya recently is putting up all out efforts to assist the civil population residing along the International Border along the Meghalaya state in coordination with the Civil administration, NGOs and Civil organization.
In one such effort, on 18th April 2020, DIG PRO BSF under Meghalaya Frontier along with 123 Bn BSF in association with Textiles Merchant Association , Food Grain merchant, Jain Committee Meghalaya, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shillong Lion Club and Media houses.
They have distributed 6000 Kg Rice, 400 liters refine oil, 2000 kg Potatoes, 600 kg Pulses, 800 kg salt, 1600 Pkts of biscuits, face masks and other essential items to 600 needy villagers from Border Villages of Alubari, Nayabasti, Dharambasti, Thariaghat, Chaklabasti and Nongjuri of East Khasi Hills Dist of Meghalaya.
The occasion displayed an emotional bondage between BSF and the local population, where in the villagers expressed their gratitude to BSF for the timely assistance through civil organization and media houses.
During the events, BSF and civil organization took all necessary precautions while distributing ration by wearing gloves, face masks and sanitizers, at the same time educated civil population about COVID-19 and its precautions.
The PRO of the BSF said, “We are putting tremendous efforts to look after the welfare of the border population residing along the international border and keep constant touch with civil administration and NGOs in order to address the needs of the populace”.
It is also our duty to help the most vulnerable among the border population and BSF will continue with its efforts.” He further urged the VDP of villages to assist BSF in preventing any trans-border movement from Bangladesh not only for security reasons but also to prevent the spread of Corona infection.
