Shillong, May 07: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mr Conrad K Sangma today inaugurated the IIM Umsawli which was identified as one of Corona Care Center.
There are many buildings of the Institute, including the Hostel Block, were just basic structures without power connectivity, internal electrical wiring, internal bathroom fittings, geysers, water availability, drainage, sewerage, etc when it was identified as a Center.
The following additional works were had to be undertaken by the MeECL for excavation and erection of 38 number of poles from the power substation upto the IIM Shillong Administration Block, and Overhead connection of electrical lines upto the Hostel Block. Providing power to the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the Pump House.
The PHE will be taking up the Construction of new septic tank with Soak Pit for Hostel Block and Admin Block, Bathroom fittings and Accessories, Extensive Cleaning of rooms/Bathrooms and outdoor areas and Patch painting. Making the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) functional and securing the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by constructing a gate. The CC road in front of the Hostel blocks was also an additional construction
The CPWD has to Strengthening of foundation of the water pump generator, Entire internal electrical wiring in Hostel blocks/Admin Block, Electrical Appliances fitting, Rectification of entire sewage and drainage system
The IIM Engineering Wing, Reorganisation and Renovation or Construction of Rooms in Hostel Blocks as per requirements of Health Department. Construction of Reception area of DEO office, Supply and fixing of chairs at the reception area as per social distancing norms, Repainting of all rooms in Block C, Construction of covered pathway between Block A & Block D, Installation of centralized geysers, CCC Signboards, flood lights, internal wiring at admin block.
The other items of work are the hostel block comprises of 258 room spread over four blocks (A, B, C and D) of four floors each. As per the plan the ground floor at C Block is designated for medical purposes like OPD, Pharmacy, X ray room, sampling room, laboratory etc.
At the Ground floor at Block B is designated to house the doctors and nurses who will be on duty at the center and Block D at the ground floor to house the support staff security guards, house keeping staff, waste handlers, plumbers, electricians etc.
The rooms for the patients were extensively prepared by providing essential items like bed, mattress, pillow, blanket, toiletries, plates, spoons, dustbins, chair, table, curtains, carpets etc. in order to make the stay of the patients pleasant and comfortable. For laundry requirements of patients, 5 washing machines/dryers are installed along with separate drying area.
Four water tankers are kept on standby in the event of any water shortage for administration Block, A separate administrative office and store room has been setup as a command centre and for Connectivity the entire Hostel Block has been network enabled via Wifi of 10 MBPS speed by BSNL.
For Communication, to enable efficient communication the entire Hostel Block and Administration Block has been installed with EPABX and PA system and the Monitoring to ensure surveillance and monitoring all the corridors of hostel blocks have been installed with CCTV cameras with the CCTV monitor installed at Admin Block to be constantly monitored
All Corona Care Centers are manned by doctors, nurses and support staff 24X7 in a 3-shift pattern. The details of staff engaged for 14 days duty of 3 shifts, there will be 4 doctors, 12 Nurses, 3 Lab technicians, 3 Pharmacist, 3 X Ray Technicians, 16 security guards, 23 hous keeping, 7 cleaners, 3 DEO, 1 supervisor, 3 receptionist, plumbers and electrician 6 each and 4 office assistants.
Other Logistics support there will be 10 maxi cabs for transportation of support team is in place for dropping and picking up. The support staff have been contracted from three manpower agencies, whilst the planning, monitoring and overall administration is being done by the staff of Education Department drawn from various programs like RUSA, PMU, ADB, MDM, SSA etc.
Two ancillary centres have been requisitioned for housing staff who have to do mandatory 14 day quarantine, after finishing 14 day duty, at NEIAH and IHM and a Police unit has also been stationed for 24 hours duty at the Corona Care Centre.
