Shillong, June 20: The demand made by KHNAM MDC Adelbert Nongrum’s that Garos should be barred from taking part in KHADC polls irked Garo militant outfit ANVC B who condemn Nongrum’s for raising such sensitive issue hurting the sentiments of the Garos, specially those living in Khasi Hills.
In a press statement issued here on Thursday, claimed that Nongrum’s statement is seen as the prelude to “Garos leave Khasi Hills” in years to come which would only divide the state from within.
According to what he said, if all Garos of the state be under GHADC than Garos residing in Khasi Hills should be allowed to vote from their own respective areas not depriving them of their rights and status as citizens of the state, the statement added.
Further, it was also mentioned that Nongrum failed to make it a point that Garos share equal status, rights and privileges under the Hills Council, violation of which will bring unbendable division.
Garos may be scattered but are not secondary citizens therefore status of each Garo should be protected, not violated or threatened.
This statement has put doubts on the deeper intentions of KHNAM against Garos living in Khasi Hills.
Meanwhile, ANVC B said that Nongrum should have been careful in making sensitive statement such as this or better more, if he apologies if it was unintended as it makes the coexistence of our people suffocating, insecure and fragile.(SP News)
