Shillong, Feb 15: The Meghalaya Police, in association with CyberPeace Foundation (CPF), an award-winning grass root NGO and think tank of cybersecurity and policy experts, launched a CyberPeace Awareness Month campaign on 15th February, 2021.
The campaign was designed to promote cyber safety awareness via online activities on the Meghalaya police social media handles such as webinars, cyber talks, Volunteer workshops, surveys, BrainOlympics, Jingle Competition and other activities.
The survey will focus primarily on identifying threats that people are exposed to online and their understanding of internet usage and technology, thus assessing the awareness of the general population of Meghalaya on online safety and security.
Talking about the campaign, Shri Purnendu Singh, Director – Operations and Strategy, CyberPeace Foundations, said, “CyberPeace Foundation has already done such awareness campaigns with Telangana Police, Andhra Pradesh Police, Assam Police, Punjab Police, Mizoram Police, South Delhi Police and with Meghalaya Police.
To launch this month-long campaign to emphasize upon the importance of cyber safety and vigilance in our day to day lives. “We target to ensure that in times to come and with such awareness campaigns, we would be able to build more cyber aware citizens in Meghalaya and across the nation.” Said Mr Purnendu.
Launching the campaign, Smt. I Nongrang, IPS, Addl. Director General of Police (L&O/TAP), Meghalaya, said, “We have to keep in mind that some basic components of cybersecurity rest on us, as individuals, and I am very happy that Meghalaya police are on this mission to create an awareness of cybersecurity issues”.
“Keeping these objectives in mind, Meghalaya Police with CyberPeace Foundation have come up with this initiative. I am sure that working together with CyberPeace Foundation, we will make the best use of the technology available and learn how to battle the myriad threats that face us”. Said Smt. I Nongrang
Smti Nongrang said that she hope this campaign will help them to achieve the desired goal of educating the future and present generations as to why they need to be aware of the plethora of challenges confronting us, and through this awareness campaign, formulate a response to each of these challenges.
The launch was followed by the first webinar in the series on the topic Cybercrime against Women and Children and Redressal, attended by teachers and students from various schools and colleges and the police officials in Meghalaya, where the speakers Shri Giri Prasad, IPS, SDPO, Sohra and Dr. Abhilasha Vyas, Consultant, CyberPeace Foundation emphasized on how an aware audience can ensure to counter the attacks happening online by the cybercriminals and create a safe and resilient cyberspace.
