Shillong, Jan 13: Polar regions are the coldest regions on the earth, affecting the climate of the entire planet. In the present times of rapid climate and environmental changes, polar studies for the detection and identification of the drivers of climatic changes become increasingly important.
The Department of Environmental Studies, North Eastern Hill University would like to congratulate Mr. Vivek Kumar on being elected as the new Vice-President of Indian Polar Research Network, a national chapter of The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS), Norway.
Mr. Kumar has taken charge today in a virtual event organized by Indian Polar Research Network. APECS is an international and interdisciplinary organization comprising of early career, doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, professionals, educators and others with interests in Polar and Alpine regions and the wider cryosphere.
Indian Polar Research Network is the national committee/chapter of APECS in India. Mr. Vivek Kumar is pursuing his Ph.D. in the department under guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Dibyendu Paul. Mr. Kumar is working on the transport, transformation and environmental fate of selected pollutants in aquatic environment. The department wishes him all success in his new assignment and hopes that he will contribute to the polar cause through Indian Polar Research Network.
