Shillong, August 16: The conglomeration of the NGO’s of Meghalaya today held a public meeting at Motphran to highlight the urgent need for the Implementatio
n of the Inner Line Permit in the state of Meghalaya, to check the inflow of people from outside into the state.
In these public Meeting the president of the Khasi Student Union (KSU) Daniel Khyriem announced that the ten organizations has decided to accept the call from the Chief Minister to meet them on the 29th of this month to discuss the Inner Lime Permit.
The KSU President said that the Discussion with the Chief Minister on the 29th will be on one point, weather the government will implement or not the ILP, these was decided by the NGO’s at their meeting, if the government is not willing to implement the ILP then they will announced the agitation programme.
The president of the Garo Student Union (GSU) Tengsak G Momin in his speech said that, the people of Meghalaya, the Garo, the Khasi and the Jiantia are one and united in their demand that ILP should be implemented to safe guard the indigenous people of the state. The GSU is ready for bandh in order to force the government to implement ILP.
The President of the FKJGP, Joe Marwein in the meeting highlighted about the importance of the ILP and the role of the NGO what they have don to pushed the government for the implementation of the ILP in the state. “ The problem is with the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, it seem that he do want to implement for the reason best known to him”
All the speakers at the public meeting to day said that there is no others law to check Influx except the Inner Line Permit, they also question the government if the ILP can be implemented in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizarom and Nagaland why not in Meghalaya.
The President of the HNYF, GH Kharshnalor, Adinson CH Momin president of the Achick’s Youth Welfare Organisation and many others said that, protection of the people is more important than development, they have also attacked the government by questioning in all these years where there is no ILP where area the development?
Others who speak on the meeting include the president of the Jaintia Youth Federation, Jaintia Student Union and the Civil society welfare organization. All of them have express their view that ILP is the only solution to protect Influx who enter the state.(SP News)
