Maligaon, August 06: World Breastfeeding Week is being observed in N. F. Railway. On this occasion a breast feeding kiosk was opened at the platform no.1 of the Guwahati Railway Station today. This Breastfeeding Kiosk will immensely benefit female railway travelers having an infant.
It will also allow a mother to breastfeed her baby properly in a secured environment and in privacy. Besides that, beautifully designed kiosk also has messages on the importance of breast feeding and its benefits for public awareness. The Kiosk was set up by the Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons in active collaboration of Northeast Frontier Railway.
Mr. J. P. Singh, Addl. Divisional Railway Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Guwahati inaugurated the Kiosk in presence of renowned Assamese film actress Nishita Goswami and other important personalities from railways and members of Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons.
In his address Sri J. P. Singh praised the effort of Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons which is a new chapter of Rotary International District 3240 in Guwahati and informed that another such kiosk will also be set up in Kamakya Railway station as well in coming days.
Renowned Assamese film actress Nishita Goswami in her speech stressed upon the importance of having such kiosk in public place to benefits more women. She thanked Railways and Rotary club for such an initiative in a place like railway station having footfall of lakhs of people.
Project is chaired by Rotarian Dr. Partha Pratim Borah who has also shared important information on World Breast Feeding week and significance of breast feeding.
In his inauguration welcome address Club advisor and Vice President Rudrajeet Laskar talked about the Rotary and about Rotary Club of Guwahati Icons while Service Project Chair Sudha Laskar shared the purpose of setting up breast feeding kiosk at Railway Station. Club Secretary Shri Dipanjan Dasgupta, offered the vote of thanks after the event.
“This will be a great help, as it is convenient and easy to locate breast feeding room in Railway Station” observed by a mother with a new born who arrived at the station to board a train. Another awareness programme in connection with the World Breastfeeding Week was held yesterday (on 5th August, 2022) at the N.F. Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon.
Talks on the importance & benefits of breast feeding were delivered by Dr. B.P. Deka, Dr. Anuradha Goswami, Dr. Apurba Das, Dr. Immanuel Tuolor and Dr. Sunita Agarwal. A large number of railway beneficiaries attended the session. Later on, a session was also held at indoor department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology to educate & support breast feeding.
