Shillong, Dec 23: The State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya as part of the National Mathematics Day Celebration 2022 organised a one day National Mathematics day cum Orientation programme for Resource Persons Math Ambassadors of the Crash Tuitions programme for SSLC candidates 2023 at Shillong College Auditorium on the 22nd December, 2022.
The programme was attended by 80 Maths Ambassadors of the State who will be aiding the Council in disseminating the crash tuitions to the SSLC candidates at 130 crash tuitions centres across the State. These include 80 centres in Khasi Jaintia region and 50 centres in Garo Hills region.
The programme consisted of two sessions where lectures were delivered by Research Scholars of the North Eastern Hills University in the first session followed by the orientation of the Math Ambassadors in the afternoon session by Shri Spainborlang Kharshandi, Associate Professor in Mathematics of Shillong College.
The Programme will be followed by a series of one day workshop on Mathematics for Lower Primary and Upper Primary teachers using maths kits and origami in all the 12 Districts during the month of January, 2023.
It may be mentioned that the Government of India has declared 22nd December to be National Mathematics Day. This was announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 26th February 2012 at Madras University to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of the Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan 22 December 1887 – 26 April 1920.
This is done not only as a mark of respect to the great mathematician but also to inspire many young minds in the country for pursuing mathematics as a career and show its use to the society.
