Shillong, Dec 23: Meghalaya was carved out of Assam in fulfilment of our long pending demand. We wanted a separate state because we thought it would not only protect our identity, but also give us an opportunity to write our own success story.
A story marked by development, growth and progress of our state and its people. However, 50 years have passed since, and we are still to write that story that we so fondly dreamt of.
On the eve of Christmas, the BJP today promised to give the gift of development to the state in the next 5 years. State President, Ernest Mawrie said that the BJP is preparing a 100 days priority program which will list out result oriented action-plans that the party will implement within 100 days of assuming office.
Mr. Mawrie said the party promises to have quantifiable deliverables against which the people of the state would be able to accurately measure the party’s performance.
Mr. Mawrie said that for the last 50 years, the people of the state have placed their hopes on different successive governments to help them realise their dreams. He said that the people have been time and again lured by the sweet talking once-in-five-years politicians who have dotted the political landscape of Meghalaya forever.
However, the people are now more aware than ever. The people can see right through the falsehoods that are generously peddled in the run up to the assembly elections. The people today judge a party by their performance and not by their manifestos alone. And the people have seen that the BJP is a party that delivers.
The BJP government at the Centre and in the various states of the country have all delivered development in their respective jurisdictions. Even our neighbouring state of Assam is growing by leaps and bounds under the BJP while we look on. Mawrie said that the people now trust our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and the BJP.
Further, Mawrie added that any development that we have seen in Meghalaya in the last five years has been because of Central Government schemes only, irrespective of whether the state government tried to appropriate the schemes by changing their names or not.
The people of the state are very angry because of the rampant corruption that has prevailed in Meghalaya for sometime. The people have realised that corruption is eating into their share of growth and development.
The people are angry at the politicians for building their own palaces at the cost of the public’s humble homes. Mawrie said that the BJP is the only party with a spotless track record against corruption.
He added, “it is because the BJP is not corrupt, and because other political parties cannot find anything against the BJP, that they resort to their false religion based propagandas against the BJP.” However, this time the people will call out their bluff, he said.
BJP State President said the BJP is the only party that will truly work for Meghalaya. The people will vote for 5 years of development and not for Rupees Five Thousand. Mawrie extended the warmest Christmas greetings to all the people of Meghalaya. He wished for the Lord to bless us all with good health, good fortune and happiness. Merry Christmas.
