Shillong, May 19: In conjunction with the celebration of 75 years of India’s Independence, Meghalaya Governor Shri Phagu Chauhan today inaugurated the eighth edition of “AMRIT YUVA KALOTSAV”, a festival of music, dance, and drama which is being held from 19th to 21st May 2023 at U Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.
The Festival is organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya with the aim of preserving and promoting the diverse performing arts of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Phagu Chauhan lauded the initiatives of the Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Department of Arts and Culture in promoting and publicizing the proud culture of the country.
Appreciating the fact that during the three days of Amrit Yuva Kalotsav, artists from different states of the country will give expression to their cultural heritage through different art forms, he said that the festival will rejuvenate the rainbow hues of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
Pointing out that our country is passing through a very important phase in its history and that its presence in the global scenario is continuously getting stronger.
The Governor said that the Festival is a befitting platform to celebrate the achievements of our Nation. He also added that besides economic, political, and strategic development, cultural prosperity is also necessary for the progress of any nation.
Envisioned by Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairman, Sangeet Natak Akademi, ‘Amrit Yuva Kalotsav’ is a concerted effort of the Akademi with cultural institutions from different parts of the country to strengthen the cultural unity of the nation and draw the youth closer to their roots.
During the three days’ festival, besides cultural performances by artists from different states of the country, a workshop on art critique will also be held in which experts will participate and share their knowledge and vast experience.
