Tura/Ampati, 29th September: The police offensive against militancy continued in two separate instances of exchange of fire between the dreaded GNLA militants and the police. Joint operations between the West Garo Hills (WGH) police and South West Garo Hills (SWGH) police led to an exchange of fire in the Salmanpara area in SWGH as well as at Tochapara near Purakhasia in WGH. Both incidents involved cadres under the command of Jackfruit Momin, with Momin also being present during the exchange.
The WGH Police recovered 1 pistol, 1 magazine and 4 live rounds, along with 2 wireless radio sets. One over ground worker for the GNLA, Lolekson D Sangma (37 years of age) was apprehended by the Police while harbouring the militants.
The SP of SWGH, R Muthu said, “We are conducting joint operations with the WGH Police to nab the militants who are currently holed up around the Salmanpara – Purakhasia area. We had an exchange of fire between the militants and the SOT/SWAT team. There were no casualties on either end but the militants managed to give us the slip. Operations are still on to catch the holed up militants”.
Last night another cadre from the same team, David Ch Momim, was also apprehended and the Police interrogation is expected to provide more details. He was involved in the horrific killings of 3 unarmed persons in the Garodoba area a few days ago.(SP News)
