ACHIK appeals CM for winter capital and backlog Policy negotiations at Mini-Secretariat

Tura, July 23: In a bid to address the long-standing issues of Winter Capital and Backlog policy, the Chief Minister has been earnestly urged to meet with ACHIK representatives at the Mini-Secretariat rather than the Circuit House.

The move comes as ACHIK seeks a more inclusive and conducive setting for negotiations, fostering transparency and citizen involvement in the decision-making process.

ACHIK,  advocating for the preservation of local heritage and cultural practices, has long been advocating for a fair and just Winter Capital policy that would ensure equitable distribution of resources and development during the winter months.

Additionally, they have been pressing for an effective Backlog policy to address pending departmental jobs that the  Garos had been deprived off for the past 50 years since the inception of the state of Meghalaya.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, ACHIK emphasized the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue in a space that is accessible  They contend that the Mini-Secretariat, as a government office located centrally within the town, serves as a more appropriate venue for discussions that directly impact the lives of the people.

Mr. Labenn Ch Marak, former MPS and MCS officer, and a spokesperson for ACHIK, stated, they  believe that decisions concerning the Winter Capital and Backlog policy should be made with the active involvement of the people who will be directly affected by these policies, this is our genuine demand to fulfill the agreement  made by the founding fathers.

They have been fasting for 13 days and we will continue unless we receive positive statement. We should be the one who should be speaking with CM not other representatives who are not part of the Hunger Strike. The Mini-Secretariat provides a neutral and public space for us to express of their concerns and suggestions openly.”

The Winter Capital policy, in particular, has been a longstanding issue, with communities experiencing disparities in resource allocation during the winter season. ACHIK’s appeal to the Chief Minister highlights the need for a comprehensive and region-specific approach to ensure that all citizens receive adequate resources and support during this challenging period.

Moreover, the pending Backlog policy has been a cause of frustration for the residents, as numerous departmental jobs had been lost due to the failure of the state job reservation policy. ACHIK’s proposal to hold negotiations at the Mini-Secretariat aims to expedite discussions and foster a sense of urgency in addressing these crucial concerns.

As the Chief Minister considers ACHIK’s request, citizens are hopeful that the government will respond positively and prioritize an open and inclusive dialogue at the Mini-Secretariat. This move would signify the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people and the preservation of the region’s cultural heritage.

The citizens of the region eagerly await the Chief Minister’s response to this pressing request, hopeful that a meaningful dialogue will pave the way for progressive policies that address the Winter Capital and Backlog issues, propelling the region towards a brighter and more equitable future. Said. Mr. Thomas M Marak President Krima Council.
