Shillong, August 15: The IIM Shillong celebrated the 77th Independence Day with fervor and enthusiasm, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by our valiant freedom fighters.

In the Celebration where students from almost all states and UTs in the beautiful city of Shillong itself is a moment to cherish and celebrate. The Ceremony commenced with a grand parade of the guards, setting a patriotic tone for the day.
The momentous occasion started when Prof. D. P. Goyal Director of IIM Shillong moved to hoistthe National Tricolor, which fluttered majestically at a towering height of 100 ft, symbolizing the soaring aspirations of the IIM Shillong community, an Institution standing high to Nations pride in the eastern-most corner of this magnificent country.
Students, along with the IIM Shillong fraternity joined in unison to sing the national anthem, expressing their collective pride in being a part of this great nation.
Prof D P Goyal Director IIM Shillong, addressed the gathering and paid tribute to the valiant individuals who laid down their lives for the freedom of this great nation.
He spoke about the integral role that IIM Shillong plays in contributing to the nation’s growth culminating with an optimistic call for collective effort and individual dedication to ensure India’s ascent to unparalleled greatness.
In his closing remarks, Prof Goyal mentioned, “We should always remember the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, whose contributions make us proud, and today we reaffirm our commitment to upholding the integrity and honor of our nation. A special highlight of the event was the Award Ceremony honoring the outsourced staff members who tirelessly contribute to the campus’s functioning.
The Chief Administrative Officer, Col. (Retd.) Dinesh Adhikari,extended his appreciation to these unsung heroes, underscoring their indispensable role in maintaining the institution’s excellence.
The list of awardees are, Mr. Joshua Kharnaior, commandant of the security force at IIM Shillong belonging to RSSO Security Agency. Mr. Romeo Rani, outsourced office staff in the MDP Department, Mr. Lari Shngainlang, outsourced office staff in the student affairs and placement department. Mr. Calbirthstar Pathaw, outsourced plumber in the support services under the office of the executive engineer and Alban Nongspung, outsourced housekeeping staff under overall management of the office of the executive engineer.
The felicitation was followed by a cultural program that featured touching poetry recitations and an instrumental performed by the students of the PGP program, celebrating the essence of patriotism.
The melody of “Jana Gana Mana” echoed through the hall as a young girl enchanted everyone with her soulful rendition. The stage came alive with a mesmerizing dance performance by the PGP22 girls, post which the event concluded with a harmonious group song by the security personnel of IIM Shillong.
