Shillong, Sept 20: A meeting of the organising committee for the conduct of the 2nd Edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon, chaired by Shri. John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, Organising Committee and Working President, MSOA was held at 6.30PM on 19 September 2023 in the Conference Hall, Main Secretariat, to review the preparations for the prestigious 21K Half Marathon.
The meeting discussed in-depth the various requirements in making the 2nd Sohra International half marathon a success and members shared their views and learning experiences from the first edition which was sucessfull conducted last year. The meeting was also attended by chairman / conveners and members of all the ten sub-committees who presented their respective views, recommendations and preparations.
The meeting was also attended and addressed by Shri. Sylvester Nongtnger, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District, Dr PN Chyne, Joint Director Health Services (SS) o/f DHS (MI), Smt. J M Umdor, Asst Commissioner, Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Shri. PB War Nongbri, Assistant Director, Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, and Shri. Finely L Pariat, Organising Secretary, Sohra Run and General Secretary, MSOA including officials from the Sports and Police Department.
The meeting was briefed on the very encouraging large number of participants who have registered online (around three thousand applicants) compared to the seven hundred in the first edition last year 2022.
The meeting resolved that sub-committees along with the organising committee officials would make a physical visit of the route and logistical venues which includes the three starting points 21K, 10K, 5K and the finish point in the next few to go through the logistical preparations.
It was resolved that after the last date of registration is over the organising committee will again issue necessary media information in both print and electronic for the benefit of the participants and the general public and tourist at large especially relating to the closure of the road from Laitsohpliah to Sohra up to Mawsmai from 6AM to 9AM on 30th September 2023.
The meeting was also informed that as this was an Athletic event recognised and supervised by the Athletic Federation of India including the World Athletics all the technical preparations would be done by officials of the AFI who would be arriving by the end of the week in Shillong.
