Maligaon, Oct 04: In line with our Honourable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of overall Development of Northeast & Nation Building, Dibrugarh is getting ready to witness the biggest running event of the year.The First Ever Northeast Half Marathon at Bogibeel Bridge, Dibrugarh is stated to be held on Sunday 29th October, 2023.
With the prime objectives of Developing Northeast, Empowering Sports and Promoting the iconic Tea City of India – Dibrugarh, N.F. Railway & Innovations India join hands to organise the Northeast Half Marathon.
The Northeast Half Marathon, Dibrugarh would be supported by Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, SAI, Assam Athletic Association, Assam Police &Vikrun Foundation among others. The Half Marathon will be aimed at the empowerment of sportspersons and development of sports infrastructure in Northeast India.
A curtain raiser press conference in this regard was held today at the Railway Officer’s rest house, Dibrugarh. Shri Rameswar Teli, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment, Govt of India along withShri Yatendra Kumar, Additional General Manager of NFR and Shri Uttam Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager of Tinsukia gave an insight about the event. Curator of the event Captain Rahul Bali briefed about the marathon, prize money and trophies to be awarded.
The Northeast Half Marathon would surely catapult Dibrugarh into limelight at both National & International Platforms as more than 3000 runners from all parts of the world are expected to participate. Prizes worth Rs. 6.5 lacs would be given away to the winners in addition to the Trophies, Medals & Merit Certificates.
The special thing about this Half Marathon in Dibrugarh is that apart from empowering sportspersons, it would highlight various USPs of Dibrugarh like the spectacular Bogibeel Bridge, the holy Jagannath Temple and of course the mesmerizing Tea Gardens that would immensely help in promoting Tourism.
The Northeast Half Marathon is a series of Marathons that are being conducted across North East India with the aim of empowering the sportspersons and development of sporting activity in Northeast India.
The first Marathon of the planned series was held at Maligaon on Sunday 05thFebruary, 2023 and approximately 3000 runners from all across India as well as abroad participated in the race. Prizes worth Rs. 11 lakhsin addition to the Trophies, Medals & Certificates weredistributed to the winners.
