Abhigyanam’s theater evening in conjunction with World Theater Day held in Guwahati

Guwahati, March 31: In line with World Theater Day, Abhigyanam Theater presented two plays on March 30th. At exactly 5:30 PM, Srishti Uniting Culture and Society presented “Men In A Box,” written and directed by Ripam Bhardwaj. The central theme of the play revolves around a man who seeks refuge in a cloth box to escape the violence and fear prevalent in the world.

However, over time, negative thoughts from the outside world continue to haunt him even inside the box. Through this play, the playwright attempts to express various societal issues such as exploitation, despair, social degradation, and more. Ripam Bhardwaj performed the lead role. The music for the play was composed by Mitu Bordoloi and Anshuman Hazarika, with Shivam Shaikia handling the set design.

Following “Men In A Box,” Abhigyanam, in collaboration with the Sangeet Natak Akademi, presented “Kamra Cheo” under the guidance of Ranhang Choudhury, with a script written and directed by Kuladeep Talukdar.

The central theme of the play focuses on the Dhulia culture. A boy, born with the bloodline of Dhulia culture, wants to carry it forward while constantly hearing it from his grandmother.

However, his father is against him being associated with this culture because he himself has never gained anything significant from it in life, so he does not want his son to be burdened by it.

Eventually, in the face of circumstances, the father relents and allows the son to embrace this culture. Just as a river flows forever, in the same way, folk culture also flows through the blood and veins of people.

Another important aspect of the play is that it was presented in the native language of Kamrup, which added to the authenticity and depth of the performance. Through “Kamra Cheo,” the director successfully conveyed a very sensitive topic in a touching and meaningful way.

The play featured key performances by Ajanta Hazarika, Kuladeep Talukdar, Chinmoy Kalita, Barasha Das, Torali Basumatary, Harshanga Raj Deka, Mridusmin Kakoti, Gourav Jyoti Dutta, Suman Gaur, among others. The choreography was done by Dhruvjyoti Spandan, with music by Boga Mesh and lighting by Dimpal kr das.

Over two hundred people were present to witness the wonderful staging of “Man In A Box” and “Kamra Cheo.” The event was graced by prominent theater director and actor Bhaskar Baruah, renowned actress Darothi Bhardwaj, RJ Hansaraj, theater critic Maithili Bhuyan, Pradhan Acharjya Deepa Chetri of Sankardev Shisu Niketon, Maligaon and many other leading personalities. The evening was inaugurated by noted social worker and Ward No. 12 Councillor Dipankar Baishya.
