Baghmara December 06: The Three day cultural bonanza called “Drum Festival” a part of Tyisam Fest’ 2012 startedoff today in Baghmara, South Garo Hills District Headquarter with a huge mass witnessing the inaugural function at Simsang Golden Beach. The Festival being organized by the the District Administration in collaboration with the Dept. Art & Culture Govt. of Meghalaya features the 350 Drum Beats performed by the troupes from Shillong Art & Culture Dept. combining the drums of both Garo and Khasi and creating a new rythemic tune. The Wangala performers from Rongara, Baghmara, Ruga and siju were added attractions of the day.
The Chief Minister of State Dr. Mukul M. Sangma graced the occasion as the chief guest and Dy. Chief Minister of State Shri Rowell Lyngdoh was the Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering the Chief Minister of State Dr. Mukul Sangma laid emphasis on such event as a means to developed Tourism sector saying that “Meghalaya in general and South Garo Hills in particular has a huge potential for Tourism sector and by organising such a colourful culturalbonanza we can showcase our rich cultural heritage and traditions”. Adding that, Dr. Sangma said that to developed the tourism sector in the district various schemes has been initiated by the government and he also said that the sanction for the purchased of Motor Boat from Baghmara to Siju has already been done which will be coming within a short period of time.
Dr. Sangma also made mention the various grants allocated by the Govt. of to organized such programs in all the district of the State and he also highlighted various other grants and schemes implemented by the Govt. of Meghalaya in the current year for the various developmental activities of the state.
The three day programme will feature a night safari and a cruise, water sports, Beach football, beach volleyball, dimchrang flute recital, gonda cheraa, serejing and other indegneous games. Delicacies of the region will also be showcased as part of local cuisine, Fancy dress competition, Fashion Show and Rock Sow featured by Ultimate Page and other local band.(SP News)
