Shillong, June 19: The Meghalaya cabinet meeting led by chief minister Conrad Sangma took several important decisions; the cabinet took up the extension Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita that is BNSS 2023 extension of this to Meghalaya by issuance of notification under sub section 2 of section 1 of BNSS 2023 with effect from 1st July 2024.
Address the media Mr. Paul Lyngdoh stated that the Government of India has notified that the BNSS shall come into force and shall replace the CRPC by 01.07.2024.
Since these criminal laws are coming into force with effect from 1st July, the state government is supposed to notify the application of BNSS 2023 to facilitate adjudication of criminal justice. However, BNSS 2023 will not be applicable to the District Council Courts as they fall under the 6th schedule.
The guidelines for compulsory forensic crime scene investigation, which is linked to the new arrangement – the BNSS where by it has become mandatory for the state to ensure that forensic experts visit crime scenes of heinous crimes scenes with punishment of 7 years and above.
And under this new proposal there will be mobile vehicles which will serve as forensic science investigation Team which will be available at all district headquarters.
The decision to decentralize the Reservation rosters for district level posts whereby the DC’s can finalize the roster system at their level- reservation of posts which are at the district level.
As per the 80% reservation for Khasis, Jaintias and Garos as in their respective districts. This will empower the DC’s to finalize the vacancies in their respective districts without further reference to the state Govt.
Smt. Iamonlang M Syiem has been cleared and appointed with the approval of the Cabinet as the new Chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Women after the age limit for the appointment of chairperson has been increased from 65 years to 70 years.
