CM inaugurates Workshop on NMFP

TURA, 10 Nov: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma today inaugurated the District Workshop on National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) organised by the District Commerce and Industries Center at Asanang. He also inaugurated the Enterprise Facilitation Center under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme and the Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra at the same venue.

To upscale their operation through capital infusion, technology transfer, skill upgradation and handholding support. The workshop also aims to support established Self Help Groups working in the food processing sector and facilitate them to achieve SME status (small, medium enterprise).The workshop is being held inorder to augment the capacity of food processors working under

Addressing the gathering during the inaugural function of the workshop Dr Sangma stressed on the importance of convergence to facilitate sustainable livelihood opportunities. Emphasizing on the need of sensitization of prospective entrepreneurs Dr Sangma said that people need to be sensitized on various schemes under the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme to enable them to choose the most viable options of engaging in a livelihood generation activity.

Deliberating on the importance of cold storage and food processing plants Dr Sangma that when there is an excess of consumable produces there is a need for an option on whether to store or process them. Dr Sangma urging seeking the people’s participation to make the programme a success said that everyone must ensure capability of optimum productivity.

Among others who spoke at the occasion were Local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, Ismail R Marak, GHADC CEM, P K Sangma, State Planning Board Co Chairman, Clement Marak, Former MLA, Billy Kid Sangma and West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi.(SP News)
