Guwahati, August 31: A mega plantation drive was organised by Department of Agriculture, Chirang in association with 3F Oil Palm Pvt. Ltd. at Serfangury Nursery. The annual event which takes place between 15 July to 15 September each year.
The plantation was graced by Shri Dr. L. Murugan – Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs .
Member of Parliament Shri Joyanta Basumatari, who visited the nursery along with District Commissioner Chirang – Shri P. Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, IAS, Sr ADO – Shri Upananda Patowary besides officials from the Department of Agriculture, 3F Oil Palm Team and more than 60 farmers.
Shri Dr. L. Murugan said, “This annual mega plantation drive we do is a celebration improving the livelihoods and conditions of our farmers. It is also an acknowledgement that the government is supporting oil palm cultivation through various means, improve economy and help our farmer brethren reap the benefits thereof.”
The plantation drive is a booster for oil palm cultivation and showcases the continued support of the government to prioritize growth of oil palm through significant subsidies and support to farmers.
Aligned with the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), the government offers financial assistance for planting material, inputs, and maintenance.
This initiative aims to boost oil palm cultivation, ensuring a steady supply of edible oils domestically. With the incentives in place, the sector is forecast to witness substantial growth in the coming years.
The government is also empowering farmers by fostering sustainable practices and offering comprehensive benefits to contribute to the nation’s self-reliance in edible oil production.
