Shillong, April 25: National Deworming Day was inaugurated today at Khliehriat Presbyterian High Secondary School, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat. The programme was attended by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District Khliehriat, Shri F. M. Dopth as the Chief Guest, District Medical and Health Officer, Dr J lakiang, Medical and Health Officer I/C Khliehriat CHC Dr N.P Suchiang, Medical Staffs, the Vice Principal, teachers and students of the school .
Dr N.P Suchiang in her speech informed the students that the National Deworming Day is observed twice a year in the month of April and October. The objective of this programme is to deworm children from 1 to 19 years of age. Deworming medicine is given twice a year to prevent different types of parasitic worms that are present in soil, dirty water that enters our body if we do not practice healthy and clean habits, consuming well cooked and clean food, vegetables and fruits, she added.
She said to prevent ourselves we have to take Albendazole 400mg tablet which is given free of cost by the government to ensure that all children are free of worms so that they can lead a healthy and normal life.
While addressing the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District said that deworming medicine will be given through the platform of Schools, Anganwadi Centres and Public Health Centres. He also requested parents to educate their children so that they can become great assets of the country.
The school authorities and parents monitor the educational aspect and the District Medical & Health Officer is taking the initiative to monitor and provide awareness regarding health related programmes and schemes in different part of the district, he said. He also said as responsible and educated students they should be the role model and spread this information to all the friends and family and encourage them to take part in this programme.
