Shillong, June 19: The Villages along the International Border with Bangladesh of South West Khasi Hills District from Mawpyllun up to Maheskhola have faces food shortage as the areas was cut off due to heave landslide and road were washed away due to heavy rain in the last few days.
Mr. John D Sangma one of the social actives inform that due to the landslide that occurred along the road from Lailad to Maheshokhla where transportation was cut off totally in the areas where many villages has faces hardship to get food items.
The social activists said that till today from the District Administration has not sent any relief material specially essentials commodities to the affected villages. Mr. John pointed out that if the road was cut off why not the government use helicopters to drops food items till Konjoy where people can come on foot to collect.
He asked where is the Local MLA of the areas to help the people at this time of need and also the former MLA they should see that people get food items, the present MLA and MDC and the EX MLA knows the villages in that area and the condition and the hardship of the people.
The road connectivity from Mawkyrwat to Nongjri was open today afternoon for small vehicles, but road connecting to thus village through the border road was washed away due to heavy rain where many villages cut off from the main market that Nongjri of SWKH District.
The Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills Smit C. Kharkongor speaking to SP News Agency said that the District Administration is monitoring closely the situation to thus villages bordering Bangladesh, but due to landslide it make difficult for transportation, tomorrow will be having meeting with the Chief Secretary considering for air lifting food items to that area.
