Shillong, April 08: Dr Mukul K Sangma Leader of opposition of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly today has written a D.O letter to the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya stated that, it will be appropriate if the assistance of providing of 5 KG of rice per person for three months and 1 KG of pulses per household can be implemented immediately.
The Leader of opposition also pointed out that imputes also indicate that the demand supply gap of rice can be addressed to reasonable extent if milling of Rice in Assam, in rice mill which were shut down, is allowed to resume with appropriate precautionary measure.
The leader of opposition mentions that the same may be taken up with the Counterpart. The spike in the price of essential commodities, particularly in rice, is a matter of serious concern, poor families with limited cash in hand do not have money anymore and it is difficult to quantify such families in distress across the state.
The MLAs sincere attempt to distribute rice out off the limited earmarked amount from the SRWP it is also confronted by non availability of rice in the godowns of whole sale dealer and stockiest and escalate price in the market, point out Dr Mukul Sangma.
The leader of the opposition in the letter asked the Chief Secretary to please refer to the announcement of the measure by Government of India in respect of 21 days lockdown to arrest the transmission of chain of COVID-19 outbreak and examine the point for the necessary action.
