Maligaon, Dec 05: “GHUM FESTIVAL”, the grand carnival of extravaganzas at the UNESCO World Heritage Darjeeling Himalayan Railway culminated today with a grand closing ceremony. Organized by NFR to exhibit DHR to the world and boost tourism in the area was enjoyed thoroughly by tourists and locals alike.
The festival which started on 13th November, 2021 concluded on 5th December, 2021with great fervour. Shri Anshul Gupta, General Manager of N. F. Railway attended the closing ceremony of the festival as the Chief Patron in presence of Shri S.K. Choudhury Divisional Railway Manager, Katihar and other senior railway officials and local people.
The General manager of the N.F Railway Shri Anshul Gupta while addressing the public, wished that the effort by NFR will be helpful to boost the economy of the area through more tourist footfall. He also released the mascot for the Ghum festival 2022 during the closing ceremony that held at Ghum station.
He also said that N.F. Railway has planned to develop stations like Kamakhya, New Jalpaiguri, Rangpo, Imphal along with some others as world class stations with state of the art infrastructure and facilities.
The Ghum Festival was organised by the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) at Ghum (the highest railway station in India) and Darjeeling Railway Stations. The fest strived to attract travellers from all over the world and was a breath of fresh air for the region and local population.
The DHR witnessed a unique experience and the tourists reciprocated the efforts of NFR’s Katihar division by making the festival a grand success. Several organizations that are integrated with the tourism industry joined hands to make this festival a success.
The festival was divided into three sections namely Culture, Adventure and Tourism. The cultural aspect included several events such as folk dances, folk music, singing, music and dance performances, Stand-up comedy, plays and talent shows.
The Adventurous aspect included early morning Heritage Walks organized every day, Mountain Biking and Trackathon events hosted on weekends. This Ghum Festival provided a huge platform for the local artists, performers, craftsmen, engineers and workers as well as Indian Railways to showcase their creativity to the world and increase their earnings.
