Shillong, Dec 18: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) participated in the golden jubilee celebration of North Eastern Council (NEC) at Shillong on 18th December 2022. Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister and Chairman NEC Shri Amit Shah graced the occasion.
The Governor believes that with the revised ‘NEC General Guidelines’ of 2015, the Council has been immeasurably addressing the growing hopes and aspirations of the people of the NE Region.
Development of NEC as a futuristic resource centre for the management of capital, innovation, knowledge and expertise, the Council will achieve its objectives and also give impetus to the ‘Act East’ policy of the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji, he said.
The Governor observed that the NEC is focusing on livelihood entrepreneurship, start-up and skill development for generating jobs in the North Eastern Region of India.
The youth of the region need further motivation to take up the Start Up ventures like tourism, animal husbandry, bamboo and agri-horticultural projects by the NEC, which will also help in eradicating the decades-long militancy in the Region, he said.
The Governor, who has seen the region since early 1960s as a young infantry officers of Indian Army believes that addressing the aspirations of the youth through NEC can change the pace of development of the region.
The Governor said which is bestowed with enchanting cultural traditions, mesmerising topography, artistic textiles and handicrafts, virgin natural environment and has huge potential for hydropower and minerals for good. It is very heartening that such far-sighted steps are now on the anvil, he said.
