Maligaon, Sept 11: Freight loading figures continue to maintain the high momentum in the month of August, 2021 for N. F. Railway. N. F. Railway loaded 0.812 MT during August, 2021. This is an increase of about 43% in comparison the corresponding period of last year.
The N. F. Railway loaded 3.996 MT during the period from April to August, 2021 as compared to 2.779 MT done in corresponding period of last year. This is an increase of 43.8%.
Loading of few commodities was increased by a substantial margin in N. F. Railway during August, 2021 in comparison to last year. Coal loading increased by 12.5%, dolomite loading increased by 521.9%, container loading increased by 120%, cement loading increased by 94.7%, and loading of miscellaneous commodities which includes items like Stone chips, Ballast etc increased by about 85.9%.
During this year from April to August, 2021, dolomite loading increased by 426.3% in comparison to the same period of last year. Food grains loading increased by 17.6%, container loading increased by 105.9%, fertiliser loading increased by 27.7%, cement loading increased by 59.7%, other commodities increased by 161.1%; and it is an overall increase of 43.8% in comparison to the last years loading up to August, 2020.
Various steps and initiatives are being taken by N. F. Railway to further improve the transportation of freight. This includes opening of new stations for handling inward and outward goods traffic, introduction of 24×7 working in goods sheds.
The regular virtual meetings with producers and stakeholders for attracting piecemeal loading, initiatives by Business Development Units (BDUs) at Headquarters and Divisional levels and improvement in average speed of freight trains due to continuous monitoring.
It is worth mentioning that a number of concessions and discounts are also being given in Indian Railways to make Railways Freight movement very attractive.
