New Delhi, Oct 03: The Khasi Authors’ Society organised a National Seminar (Ka Lympung Ï amir Jingtip) and a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, from the 29th to the 30th of September, 2023 and resolved to seek response from the Ministry Home Affair on the Khasi language on 8th Schedule.
After the two days national seminar held in Delhi KAS ha decided to seek a response from the Union Home Minister, Government of India regarding the memorandum for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India that the Khasi Authors’ Society had submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, vide letter No. KAS/EC/ 2018 – 2021/ 33 dated 21st January 2021 and letter No. KAS/EC/2018-2021/51 dated Shillong, the 24th July, 2021.
To urge the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs to initiate necessary steps to introduce an official bill in the Parliament for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
The Khasi Author Society to submit the documentation containing exhaustive information about Khasi language, literature and culture and also concrete justifications for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution.
They will wait for a respectable lapse of time, before the Khasi Authors’ Society take up further actions on the issue, said Prof. D.R.L. Nonglait President and Dr. R. P. Kharshiing General Secretary, Khasi Authors’ Society in the press statement iisued to the media.
