Shillong, Feb 5: It is a proud moment for Madonna Lyngdoh, a 14-year old girl from Laskein in West Jaintia Hills to emerge victoriously at a recent concluded dance competition, the North East Creation Championship 2013 which was held in Guwahati.
Competing against 3000 talented dancers from all over the north east, Lyngdoh said that it is not an easy task to compete against them.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday Lyngdoh expressed her happiness over the achievement, “This is the first step to success. I am proud to represent the state in the regional platform and I hope that i will be able to bring laurel to the state by participating in national events like Dance India Dance (DID)”, Lyngdoh said.
Highlighting the challenges she had to face throughout the competition. “It is not an easy task to compete against 3000 other dancers from all over the region and indeed, I am fortunate to have had a great tutor like Kit Thabah, a DID participant”, she added.
Further while mentioning that she finds it dificult to meet the expences, Lyngdoh informed that despite having approach the people’s representatives from her constituency and the government to extend their support in terms of financial assistance, yet the response was disappointing.
Ruing the attitude shown by the government towards the much-needed small dancers like her, Lyngdoh said “It is sad that the government is showing no interest in this field despite the fact that there are many talented young dancers of the state who could uplift the image of the indigenous community of the state.”
Lyngdoh, who also participated in DID in 2010 but failed to make it to the finals after being eliminated in the second round at Kolkata, is a class VII students of St Francis English School at Mawkyndeng, West Jaintia Hills.
Expressing her confidence to strive forward and making use of her talents in the years to come, Lyngdoh said “I don’t want my community to stay behind when it comes to exposing their talents in dance forms. Like singing, i think dance forms should also be given utmost importance by the government and the society as a whole.”(SP News)
