Manipur visits by NESO on a goodwill mission meet affected persons, CSOs, and Govt officials

Shillong, August 04: The North East Students, Organisation concluded their three day Goodwill Mission to trouble state in Manipur, during their visit they have visited three  relief camps housing displaced Meiteis in Moirang village, Bishnupur District, Bishnupur town, and Ideal Girls College in Imphal.

They have interacted with many displaced Meiteis from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Tengnoupal districts, witness many women, children, and elderly people in the camps. Earlier this day, NESO leaders were warmly welcomed by AMSU and other Meitei organisations. Traditional Meitei mufflers were presented to the NESO delegation.

NESO team traveled from Imphal to Churachandpur Lamka, passing through many affected villages where there is huge military presence without any civilians.  The NESO delegation was received by leaders of the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF), and others in Kangvai village.

In Churachandpur (Lamka) town, NESO met the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar communities. Here also the NESO was presented with traditional Kuki-Zomi-Hmar muffers. Discussions were held at length with these groups.

The delegation, along with the students’ bodies, visited a relief camp for displaced Zo persons. The displaced Zos are mostly from Imphal, Bishnupur and other districts. Here also many women, children and elderly persons were housed.

The delegation were able to visit only one relief camp for the Zo people and they had to leave the area due to tension along the Churachandpur-Bishnupur border. In the evening, NESO met the Governor and submitted a memorandum  to her and the Prime Minister, also held a meeting with Meitei CSOs, Met with the CM of Manipur and issued a press statement in Imphal.
