Shillong, Feb 25: A one day training programme on Departmental Disaster Management Plan was held today at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat, Shillong.
The programme organized by the Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (MSDMA) was aimed at creating awareness on the new guidelines issued by the Central Government for the preparation of respective Departmental Disaster Management Plans at the State level.
Addressing the participants, Smti. Ripnar. Lyngdoh, Commissioner and Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department informed that under section 940 of the Disaster Management Act 2005 it is mandatory for all departments of the State Government to adopt a continuous and integrated process of planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing measures necessary for prevention and mitigation of disasters.
Meghalaya being a multi hazard state with high susceptibility for disasters, she stressed that it is in the interest of the state that aggressive actions are taken to make disaster risk reduction and management a reality.
The resource person for the programme was Ms. Lejia E. S. Lyngdoh, Consultant SDMA and the participants comprised of officers from different government departments. Also present was Shri. S Bordoloi, Sr. Consultant, SDMA.
