Shillong, Sept 05: The Second State Executive Meeting of the BJP was held today 5th of Sep. 2002. The meeting was presided over by the state President Shri Ernest Mawrie.
Mr. Ram Madhav National General Secretary gave his inaugural speech through video conference. The meeting passed a political resolution.
The concluding speech was given by Miss Soroj Pandey National General Secretary of the party. Members from different districts joined the conference through video conference.
The political resolution adopted by the Meghalaya BJP State unit mention that ” Weare living in very unique times when lockdowns and social distancing have become the new normal. The Covid-19 pandemic caught everyone off-guard and disturbed our way of life”.
This unique problem requires an equally unique political resolve to not only bring us back on the path of growth and development, but also to increase its speed while adapting to the rapidly changing world.
The party have resolved to not only support the government of which we are a part, but also to provide constructive criticism and continuously question the government at any and all steps where they may falter.
As a party they will also push the state government to bring people friendly and pro-development policies that will help our state to come out of the slowdown brought about by the pandemic.
The Government of India has envisioned connecting all state capitals of the north-east with railway. In this, and keeping in mind the need to protect the local cultures and tribal way of life, they will pressurize the state government to bring only goods trains right upto to Shillong. This is automatically assure the people that there will be no illegal immigration into the state.
The party will also propose the privatization and out-sourcing of all non-performing public sector enterprises. This will not only cut the losses of the state government, but also bring more efficient services to the public and generate revenue for the government by way of taxation, etc.
The party realises that a lot of the state economy was dependent on mining related activities. However, this has suffered as set-back due to the environmental impact caused by unscientific methods that were adopted in the past.
As a result, a blanket ban on mining has been imposed by the NGT. We will pressure the government to come up with a holistic mining policy that will lay down scientific and environmental friendly means of mining for the people. This will open up the economy and uplift the standard of living of the people of the state.
The Covid 19 pandemic has slowed down the state economy to a large extent. To reverse this, we will insist that the state government should come out with a policy to incentivize and promote industries and multi-national companies that enable job creation within the state to invest here.
We will also advise the state government to use the GST data by tracing HSN codes, and encourage the production of such goods within the state that are presently imported from the rest of the country. Similarly, we will also advise the government to identify the materials that are exported from the state in raw form and encourage the setting up of value addition activities here. This will create employment opportunities for the local youth as well as generate revenue for the state.
BJP realises that the tourism potential of Meghalaya is such a driving force such that other activities may even take a back seat. In line with this, we will ask the State Government to promote tourism by making it accessible for all kinds of travellers, through development of tourist circuits, and by promoting Meghalaya in the rest of the country through advertisement.
If required, we will take to the streets to insist on policies that benefit the local people of the state.
