Shillong, Dec 16: A formal function to mark the shifting of Khliehriet C&RD block to Wapung was held on Thursday at Wapungskur village, East Jaintia Hills District.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest accompanied by Minister, C&RD, Hamletson Dohling and Minister, Social Welfare, Kyrmen Shylla.
During his address the Chief Minister said that the shifting of the C&RD block from Khliehriet to Wapung will bring administration closer to the people and added that the Government would examine the need to create more block offices in locations that deserve administrative strengthening.
“As per the need of the people of the State, the Government will examine the setting up of more administrative blocks. There are many regions in our State, where the people have to travel huge distances to access government services and that is very unfair for the citizens. The Government will examine the possibility of putting up more blocks to bring the administration closer to the people’, he said.
Emphasizing on the importance of C&RD blocks for administration, the Chief Minister said, “Block offices are the most important offices in the rural areas. Majority of our schemes, especially the Central Government schemes are implemented through the blocks and therefore it is imperative that people have easy access to the development initiatives of the Government”.
