Shillong, Mar 5: Meghalaya returned to the field with a crushing 171-run victory over Arunachal Pradesh in the Women’s Senior One-Day Trophy in Puducherry today.
This was the first match that the senior team played since Chandigarh upset their run of five consecutive victories on Monday and they put in a stellar performance against Arunachal today.
After being put in to bat Meghalaya made 220/6 in their 50 overs and then bowled out Arunachal for 49.
Saee Purandare was on her way to making her third century of the season but was dismissed for a mighty 95, while Vandana Mahajan struck 51 to put Meghalaya into a strong position with only the death overs to go.
Riticia Nongbet and Solina Jaba then contributed 10 runs each to take Meghalaya to 220/6, their highest total this season.
Mahajan was given the new ball and took a wicket in her first over, ultimately finishing with figures of 4/5 in 9.1 overs. She bowled four maidens, only bettered on this measure by Debasmita Dutta, who bowled five.
Dutta claimed 1/10 and Nongbet 1/14 but it was Rebeldalis Syiemlieh who had a wonderful first match of the tournament as she claimed 2/10 in seven overs to send Arunachal packing.
