Baghmara, Oct 20: The Meghalaya Government sustained its aggressive rural welfare push with the Chief Minister Mr. Conrad K Sangma today distributing funds and livestock for the benefit of Farmers, Producer Groups and Youth atBaghmara in South Garo Hills.
The Honorable CM, disbursed funds amounting to ₹. 9.87 Lakhs under ‘FOCUS+’ Farmer’s Welfare Programme impacting 987 producer households.
The FOCUS+ initiative has been designed to provided benefit to all producer household across Meghalaya, its is an extension of Meghalaya’s biggest frmers welfare program FOCUS.
The two schemes (Focus and Focus+) will provide farming households of Meghalaya a financial advantage of ₹10,000 per household.
Moreover, under the Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme, ‘PROGRESS’, 1000 piglets (3 females and 1 male each) were distributed to 250 farmer households from South Garo Hills District. In addition, high yielding variety of Kuroiler poultry birds were distributed to 30 beneficiaries.
The progress scheme aims at ensuring sustainable livelihood of farmers through different livestock farming activities this will benefit 10000 marginals farmers with an aims to increased pork’s and poultry production in the state.
The Financial Assistance under YESS Meghalaya to youth organizations too continued with ₹. 4.8 Lakhs being distributed by the CM to 11 Youth Groups in South Garo Hills District. YESS is a scheme launched to nurture the youth by empowering organizations working towards social welfare and sports.
For Self Help Groups, Community Investment Fund were given to the women led SHGs. For this Financial Year, 79 Village Organizations have received ₹2.15 Cr so far through Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society – MSRLS in Baghmara.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Conrad K Sangma said Meghalaya is an agrarian state; hence the development of the rural economy is our top priority. During the past four and a half years, they have championed several programs on a mission mode to bring about a turnaround.
Whether it’s through direct fund transfer to farmers, youth, and self-help groups, or through the distribution of livestock among rural households, they are creating sustainable avenues of income for our people and moving towards realizing our vision of doubling farmers income.
