Shillong, August 13: The Meghalaya Police in the statement issued claim that from the evidence collected there were clear indication that Mr. Cherishterfield Thangkhiew linked in the IED explosion of both the criminal cases.
In the press statement the Assistance inspector general of Police Mr. G K Iangrai stated that in connection with the cases register in East Khasi Hills District and East Jaintia Hills District regarding in IED explosion.
The police claim that thorough investigation were conducted leading to the arrest of several persons and from the statements of these arrested persons and from materials evidences collected, there were clear indication linking the involvement of Thangkhiew in both the criminal cases.
The police claim that on the basis of the evidences an operation was launched by Meghalaya Police in the early morning today 13th August 2021 to arrest Mr. Cherishterfield, and his associates.
In the press statement the police said that when the police team tried to enter inside his house in Kynton Massar, the surrender cadres attacked the team with a knife as an attempt to escape.
The police team exerting the right to private defence, fired a single round which hit the surrendered cadre, and after being hit he was immediately rushed to civil Hospital, shilling for medical assistance but unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries.
The police claim that incrementing evidences have been seized from his residence of the surrendered cadre including a firearm and knife, and two more persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the cases.
The police said that a case is being registered in connection with the incident and the investigation of the cases will be supervise by a senior officer to further ascertain the fact and the circumstances, said the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the press statement.
