Shillong, July 18: World Youth Skills Day is celebrated on July 15 every year. The theme for the year 2023 is “Skilling teachers, trainers & youth for a transformative future”.
The objective of this day is to shed some light on the necessary skills for the employment and entrepreneurship of young people and their strategic importance for the future.
This day is a unique opportunity for policy partners, employers, development partners, vocational and training educational programs to dialogue with young people about the skills needed as the world transitions into a sustainable development model.
Skill is probably the only thing that can drive a nation and its people towards self-reliance and financial prosperity. Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) celebrates World Youth Skills Day with Inspiring Success Stories.
The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Shri Challienkhum Songate, (IRS), Principal Secretary of the Labour Department as the Chief guest and Smti Isawanda Laloo, IAS, as the Guest of Honour.
The highlights of the event were the inspiring narratives shared by skilled trainees from various sectors under the Skills Meghalaya program. Their stories exemplified the transformative power of skill development.
Also, in recognition of exceptional contributions, an award ceremony was held to honour the top 10 Training providers (TPs), the Best Trainee Award and Award of Appreciation to deserving employees of MSSDS.
Besides this, a self-composed song on the importance of Time Management was beautifully presented by “Ka Kynhun ki Syrdeng” which reminded the youth of a determined outcome if ‘time’ was meaningfully managed.
An entertaining short play by the name “What Matters” presented by Chiiung Group, enthralled the audience through their humour. An energetic dance choreographed by Eastern Dance Icons engaged the viewers with their performance.
Adding to the vibrant atmosphere, the training providers and their trainees had each a stall, showcasing and selling their impressive array of products.
World Youth Skills Day serves as a reminder of the importance of equipping young people with the necessary skills to thrive in an ever-evolving job market.
MSSDS have enrolled over 9,000 trainees, and close to 4000 trained under Skills Meghalaya alone, and remains committed to empowering the youth of Meghalaya with essential skills.
Under Skills Meghalaya, MSSDS envisions to design and implement practical programs for youth development and empowerment with a target of covering 1.2Lac young people under three domains of skilling, livelihood and entrepreneurship.
This will cover the school going youth, recent dropouts, unemployed adults, persons seeking for skill upgradation and certification for the skills acquired informally.
