Shillong, Nov 6: Meghalaya won their U-23 Men’s One-Day Trophy plate group match by a convincing seven wickets with 25 overs to spare over Manipur in Cuttack today.
Fine work with the ball and in the field saw Meghalaya dismiss Manipur for just 89 after the former won the toss and chose to field first.
Akash Choudhary (3/19) and Elchiang Momin (3/23) were the star bowlers for Meghalaya. Aditya Verma (2/12), Arbin Singh (1/8) and Mukesh Ray (1/9) were the other wicket-takers as Manipur were dismissed in 34.3 overs.
In the chase Rohit Shah and Yogesh Tiwari both contributed 36 runs each as Meghalaya cruised to 90/3, knocking off the required runs in just 25 overs.
In onother games Nirdesh Baisoya took a record 10 wickets in a single innings for Meghalaya on the first day of their U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match against Nagaland in Tezpur, Assam, today.
Baisoya finished with figures of 10/51 off 21 overs as Nagaland were bowled out for 113. Although none of the other bowlers took a wicket, they would not have minded as their team mate Baisoya made history.
Nagaland had won the toss and opted to bat first, but could not deal with Baisoya’s bowling. Meghalaya then reached 109/4 at stumps. Baisoya contributed 68 runs for a superlative all-round performance.
