Shillong, Sept 08: Meghalay Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today announced the sanction of Rs. 6.4 crore for the repair and replacement of old pipelines and feeder lines in Mawlai constituency.
The funding for the first phase of work is being met through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a centrally sponsored scheme for urban development.
Meeting P.H.E. officials and other stakeholders in the presence of local M.L.A. P.T. Sawkmie, during his short stopover at Mawlai en route to Delhi for an official visit, the Chief Minister said that it is the endeavour of the government to ensure proper piped water supply reaches all households in the rural areas and through the implementation of various programs and schemes a massive effort is being made both by the central and the state government to overhaul the existing water supply infrastructure in the urban areas.
‘There is a massive work and massive program going on, with the effort both of the central government and the state government, to give proper drinking water supply through pipelines’, the Chief Minister said while also informing about the ongoing program of the Government to provide functional tap water connections to all rural households through the Jal Jeevan Mission.
