Shillong, March 08: The MLA Mr. Sanbor Shullai met shri Rakesh kumar Verma Union Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, New delhi, Govt of India, during his Delhi visit and discussed the Central Ministry support to the state for Tourism Development.
In a letter to the Union Tourism Minister MLA Shri Sanbor Shullai requested the Union Secretary of Tourism for early release of 2nd installment of Development of Northeast Circuit implemented by MTDC ltd.
The chairman also requested for early sanctioning of Development of Spirtual Circuit for which the state had submitted a total project costing to the tune of Rs. 73.50 crore. The Secretary Tourism has assured Shullai that project will be sanctioned at the earliest after some changes in the guidelines.
The MLA Shri Sanbor Shullai briefed the Secretary Tourism that the State has benefitted from sustained self revenue generation and employment from Swadesh scheme and 100% Utilisation certificate has been submitted by MTDC Ltd till date and no UC is kept pending till date.
The MLA also requested the Union Secretary Tourism, to support the state by sanctioning of various funds so as to support the 20 years vision document to be launched by MTDC Ltd for overall Tourism development and employment generation for the state and its youth.
Mr. Shullai also suggested that he will submit proposal of MTDC ltd through state Government to tie up with India tourism development corporation (ITDC) & Tourism finance corporation for financing Tourism project incuding hotel and home stays at resonable and also for tourism development purpose.
This will boost investment in tourism. Shullai also met official of Ministry of Tribal Affairs and also requested in a letter through Union Tribal Affairs Minister Shri Arjun Munda ji to grant fund for development and extension of pinewood as Heritage hotel for creation of more jobs for unemployed tribal youth beside revenue generation.
In the meeting Mr. Shullai said that there is a need to urgently address the issues of those engage in tourism sector as lakhs of people are directly or indirectly link with tourism industry in the state of Meghalaya.
