Shillong, June 28: Meghalaya Tourism Minister, Mr Metbah Lyngdoh today inaugurated a two day North East Conclave 2019 on Transforming North East India through Science and Technology organized by the Institute of Bio-resources & Sustainable Development (IBSD), an Autonomous Institute of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India at the State Convention Centre, Shillong.
In his inaugural address, Mr Metbah Lyngdoh said that North Eastern States of India is a treasure house of rich biodiversity and its endowments can contribute to nation progress and accelerate the pace of development.
Mr. Lyngdoh lauded the initiative of the IBSD for organizing this conclave where leading experts and policy marker from different parts of the country along with local stakeholders come together to discuss on transforming North East India through Science and Technology.
He expressed hope that the discussions and debates of the experts in the two day conclave will come out with a strategy management of the natural resources and to develop a road map and policy recommendations that is people centric and community participation to bring people center directions in development of northeastern region through the intervention of science and technology.
The panelist for the two day conclave included eminent scientists and academicians drawn from various Scientific Research Institutes of the country. The topics for discussions includes Infrastructure and Human Resources Development, Health, Nutrition and Bio-resources for Prosperity, Creating job opportunities in NE and Citizen Science Programme, Biodiversity Conservation, Traditional knowledge systems and Natural Resources Management and Role of Bio-enterpreneurship and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in transforming North East.
The inaugural programme was also attended by Dr. Shekhar C Mande, Director General, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India, Shri Sampath Kumar, CEO, Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) and Commissioner & Secretary to Government of Meghalaya, Dr. Mohd. Aslam, Adviser, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo, Director, IBSD, government officials, school and college students.
