NEHU Tura Campus Welcomes New Pro Vice-Chancellor: A Dawn of Hope and Progress

Tura March 27:  The Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU), NEHU Tura Campus, has extended its heartfelt congratulations and profound gratitude upon the appointment of Professor Dr. Fameline K. Marak as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of NEHU Tura Campus.

This appointment, long awaited and much needed, marks a pivotal moment for the institution, which has been operating under a Director-in-Charge for nearly four years.

For almost three decades, NEHU Tura Campus has stood as a beacon of higher education in the Garo Hills. However, the absence of a dedicated Pro Vice-Chancellor has presented numerous administrative and academic challenges.

While the Director-in-Charge played a crucial role in overseeing campus operations, the limitations of the position were evident, particularly in its restricted capacity to influence university-wide decisions at the headquarters in Shillong.

With the appointment of Professor Dr. Fameline K. Marak, NEHU Tura Campus now has a direct representative at the university’s decision-making forums.

This is expected to significantly enhance the campus’s ability to voice its concerns, advocate for its needs, and facilitate the long-overdue infrastructural and academic reforms.

As an integral member of the university’s governing bodies, the new PVC is poised to spearhead policy discussions that will determine the future trajectory of the campus.

Despite its long-standing legacy, NEHU Tura Campus continues to grapple with a host of unresolved issues. As the academic home to thousands of students and affiliated with 17 colleges, the campus faces severe infrastructural deficiencies, insufficient hostel accommodations, irregular faculty and staff recruitment, lack of proper departmental buildings, and inadequate laboratory facilities.

These systemic shortcomings have persisted due to a lack of effective representation in university affairs. The appointment of a dedicated Pro Vice-Chancellor is, therefore, seen as a crucial turning point in addressing these grievances.

Speaking on behalf of the student community, Chakram D. Sangma, President of PGSU, reaffirmed the union’s commitment to working alongside the new PVC to ensure the holistic development of the campus.

He emphasized that the students are hopeful that this appointment will pave the way for significant academic advancements, improved facilities, and a campus environment that is conducive to higher learning.

“We welcome Professor Dr. Fameline K. Marak with great optimism and faith in her leadership. May her tenure bring about the transformation that NEHU Tura Campus has long yearned for. We wish her wisdom, strength, and dedication in this new responsibility, and we pray that her leadership will usher in a brighter future for all,” he stated.

The appointment of Professor Dr. Fameline K. Marak as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU Tura Campus stands as a beacon of hope for students, faculty, and staff alike.

With a renewed sense of purpose and a capable leader at the helm, the campus community looks forward to a new era of academic and infrastructural growth, ensuring that NEHU Tura Campus fulfills its true potential as a center of excellence in Meghalaya.
