Shillong, Oct 12: The North Eastern Hills University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) organising a rally on Thursday protesting against the vice chancellor Prof P. S Shukla for not calling the emergency meeting of the academic council of the University said the president of the NEHUTA Prof Lakhon Kma .
Taking to media Prof Lakhon inform that in the general meeting of the NEHUTA held on the 6 of October had deliberated on the requisition of the emergency meeting of the Academic council which has been signed by the members of the Academic Council from Shillong and Tura campuses submitted to the VC on the October 4.
The association requested the VC to notify the Academic Council emergency meeting by the 9 of October, failing which they will intensify their agitational programmes but the VC had ignored it.
The demand was made in view of the hasty and inappropriate implementation of NEP 2020 at the UG level in the affiliated colleges with NEHU without the approval of the Academic council. He added that all NEHUTA members have abstained from setting and moderating question papers of 1st semester under illegitimately implemented NEP at UG level for different subjects.
More over The Academic council is yet to decide on the models of question papers under NEP for UG, which was require as per NEHU ordinance so that there is uniformity in the pattern of question papers setting across all subjects. In the absence of model question papers no teachers can set the question and hence it can’t be moderated
He added “the unilateral and hasty decision of the VC is an act of infringement on the rights of the Academic Council and violating the establish norms and procedures as per NEHU act, statutes and ordinance, the VC of NEHU has failed to uphold the democratic norms and the sanctity of the statutory body of the university like the Academic Council”
