NEIGRIHMS promotes cleanliness and hygiene  through the Swachhta Conference

Shillong, March 22: The Department of Sanitation, NEIGRIHMS organized ‘Hygeia 2025’, The Swachhta Conference on 21st March 2025. The conference emphasized the unique way of promoting various cleanliness and sanitation practices at the health care institute to achieve atarget of health for all.

The conference highlighted various issue related to infection control in hospital, cleanliness protocols in critical areas including operation theatres and ICUs.

The conference also highlighted various aspects of stress& mental health of sanitation staff.  Faculty from IHM Shillong and State Pollution Control Board enlightened the participants about the safe food practices and medical waste management.

Speaking to the gathering Sr. Prof. Vandana Raphael officiating Director NEIGRIHMS congratulated the department in organizing such conference which will enhance the exchange of knowledge amongst the various sections involved in cleanliness and hygiene maintenance at health care institutes.

Prof. Suvamoy Chakraborty Officiating Medical Superintendent encouraged the staff to maintain cleanliness at hospital and appealed to notlitter around. Shri. David Umdor officiating Deputy Director (Admin) emphasized the importance of such activities and also informed that NEIGRIHMS is taking active steps to install water purification system to improve the water quality and prevent the risk of water borne infection at NEIGRIHMS.

He also informed that the institute is in process to initiate the work for separate sanitation block for the department which will surely enhance the work output from sanitation section for a definitive and visibleimpact on overall health quality at NEIGRIHMS.

More than 140 delegates including health care staff from various hospitals in Shillong and nearby health care facilities attended the conference and shared the ideas and innovative approaches for improving hygiene standards.

‘Best Out of Waste Competition’ and ‘Quiz Competition’ were organised to encourage and spread the message across the delegates. Supercare Hospital, Mawiong CHC and NEIGRIHMS received 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in ‘Best out of Waste’ Competition and Reid Provincial Chest Hospital, Ganesh Das Hospital and Civil Hospital received 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in Quiz Competition respectively.
